Ironically, I recently posted this in your thread at TCF:

It's over 2 years since this thread has died, and I finally figured out how this could work.   

There are two ways, actually.  The first one would be similar to what I did with the P2P "forum" on the main page...just redirect people to whatever forum they wanted...I could easily add TWH to the main page, if need be.

The next would be via Membergroups.  Create 3, and give 'em to everyone when they join.  When they're banned from one of the "Boards," remove 'em from that Membergroup.  Pretty simple, actually.  The only difficulty would be assigning post-based Membergroups to each area.  Maybe a Mod Request to tie them to the 3 non-post-based Groups.  Hmmm...

And, since Marm and I are both using SMF, the databases could be merged...posts AND User accounts.  I don't know if ProBoards allows dB exporting or not.

Anyway...there's a way to do this on one domain...at least with the current SMF software, anyway.  Maybe it wasn't, 2 years ago...I don't remember.

Given the lack of response, I don't think people are open to it, for whatever reason.  I think they'd just rather leave it the way it is.  I don't have the answers to this one.  Hell, I can barely get responses out of people for all the Mods I've been adding at TCF.  The only thing that recently got any type of decent response was the new banner image...and there are a few other features that I, personally, thought were more impressive, and no ones seems to care.

I could go on, but I think I'd just be beating a dead horse. :-/

Well, you can pass this on from me - on behalf of one-half of the staff.

We all started at TWH, it makes sense for this place to continue on for that very reason. Also, bringing everyone together (either here, or there) would make sense from a user-base perspective and given the many changes TWH has been through over time, this would be the most logical place to form the merger. There's no reason why elements of TCF couldn't "live" here and furthermore, if it was wanted, certain posters could not have access to certain boards if it was wished that way.

As for our "current users" Marvin and Slap have been permanently banned and as far as I'm concerned, Bestest is on the shortlist to go as well if he mentions anything that he's been warned about again... Tigerboy is barely around, and again, he's bound to the rules of decency as is anyone else (including me)

I'll also add this into the mix...

If my presence is a problem for merging, then I'll step down as Adminstrator and hand it to you Warlock, or whomever Marm deems appropiate. Ultimately, it's better (in my opinion) for this place to coninue on in a merged fashion - a place where everyone can meet from time and time and remember the past and enjoy the future... so to speak...

If I'm a hinderance to this happening, then consider myself resigning. I'll stay on only as a Moderator of whatever forums Marm wishes and/or the in-house Graphics guy (alongside Warlock, or whomever else wants to throw their name in the ring)

Ultimately, I'd prefer this place to get back to being the hive of creativity (especially in signatures and artwork) that it once was, and my ego isn't big enough to stop that happening, if it's deemed that my presence as admin is the problem.

So take that to your "team'

Hopefully sense will prevail, rather than having the places split like they are now.

For my answer to Number 1 - I can't really give a straight yes or no.  Since I know very little of the history of the other place or the interactions between members I have no way of knowing what would be a good fit and what wouldn't... with that in mind, I am leaving it up to the majority ruling for this question.


For my answer to Number 2 - Moving either board to the other requires a large amount of weighing the pro and cons of doing so.  Things to consider are the cost, the work put into the boards by those who run them now, if some people would leave with the change, would it cause too much friction between the different board members, etc... I imagine all these questions have been raised by all the main parties, but that is where my thinking lies for this particular subject.  These questions also were raised when even mentioning the possibility of a merger.

That is where I am currently at in my thinking.... I leave it to the Lords of the Boards and the the Mistress of Fate.  I will deal with whatever decision is made when I have to face it, worrying over it when I have very little to do with the outcome will only cause me stress I can do without.

i couldn't post with those guys now. not after what was said and done recently. ordinarily i'd say they were welcome to come here if they wished and were willing to abide by our rules (those who are not banned for obvious reasons), but i can no longer say that.

i may be the only one, but i want nothing further to do with them. (Marm excepted)

Well, from what Biggs has told me, they've been banned from TWH as well...I think the only one left there is Bestest.  Other than him, I've only seen Biggs and Marm post...and Gunn, about the same time he returned here.

I just checked...he doesn't appear to be banned.  His last post was June 19th, but he was last signed on just 6 days ago.

Then I posted your comments.  The following are the responses since then:

Judges?? OOOOHH I'm sorry thats not the answer we were looking for. Lets face it, this place has more actual users actively coming here and doing stuff than at TWH, so while I can sympathize with his want for it to "live on," we also have to put it into perspective. It would be easier for the people over there that are actually worth bringing over to just come aboard here and post in harmony at whatever pace they see fit. Outside of a couple of them, the other people that go over there are already here. In the realm of sheer numbers we have them beat... so why make it seem like TWH is more important and everybody should migrate back over there?

Just makes no sense. Honestly, theres nothing at TWH that we don't already have and at the same time theres a lot of work thats been done here that hasn't been done over there. If nothing else, that should be one of the main reasons for a no merge. I think it would be a waste to abandon something thats already built and rebuild it (maybe) somewhere else.

i've been giving this some thought over the past day and i have decided that if this place goes and/or redirects to TWH i will no longer post. i can keep up with you all either at Facebook or on Messenger anyway. it's not because of Biggs; i like Biggs and Marm. it's principal. i have given TWH so many chances in the past and have had my fingers burned every time. i have no intention of ever posting there again. ever.

i can see why it would benefit you and Marm. it's a lot cheaper to have only one board. but...

and Biggs is wrong, we did not "all start[ed] at TWH". some of us started at LOP - should we all just go back there? and what of those who started here? would you want Katie to be socializing with the TWH'ers (when you finally let her back on)? and why the hell should a merger mean TWH is the survivor?

if this is about bringing us all back together under one roof, will the P2P members be joining us?

The P2P members don't even join p2p anymore... the posting over there is 2 or 3 people every few months or so... so its essentially TWH. And I'm not looking for people to move over there to keep it alive. Its a lost cause.

No offense to Reaper, but if we moved back to P2P, I'd turn into Essex.  ProBoards, Invision, and all the other free message are blocked from work, and that's where I do most of my posting these days.   :-/

I shoot over there for like 1 minute a day.. maybe, again I'm not trying to get people to go there. It had a decent run, but its time is over now.

That's all, so far.  In other talks, mainly via IM, it was decided that if ya'll wanted to migrate over to TCF, we'd forget about "housekeeping" for inactive Users, if it'd help.

If you're interested, I can keep you updated on future comments...I don't foresee the tone of things changing, though.

Hahah, I don't actually recognise any of those usernames at all, so I prolly overestimated at how many old-school TWH people you have posting over there dude! I'm assuming one of those guys is Eezer and Soul Reaper I vaguely remember as a colossal douchebag... but I thought you had others there (Beej, Essex etc), so yeah... obviously with the raging "four vote" majority it's a bit pointless, because both sites have ziltch activity...

...as for messageboards, I think their day has come and gone. I'm here barely on a monthly basis... just popping in and out. I keep in touch with Marm most weeks via e-mail and with a pretty hectic "real" life and work responsibilities, I don't have the energy to handle a merger anyways... I was more interested in the general consensus (and/or how many active users you had)

If people don't care, then that's fine by me. As I said, I barely care... it was more in the interests of logic or preservation of the history of this place, for whatever reason, I felt it was a kinda logical idea. I don't post much, if at all... If Marm wants to move over there, I couldn't imagine I'd follow as TWH is and has always been my one-stop-shop... I think it'll gradually die a natural death, which is fine by me either way. The people I'm interested in keeping in touch with I do so via e-mail or Facebook...

Well, if you and/or Marm ever DO show up at TCF again, it's been decided to offer you both Staff positions, should you want them.

I can't believe how much discussion this issue raised...mostly via IMing.  LOL
